
-Must have at least a 4 year Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Graduates after January 1, 2024 must also have a graduate degree.
-Must have completed a 6-12 month dietetic internship
-Must pass the national board exam for Dietitians
-Must complete continuing education yearly to maintain license and registration

-Registered Dietitians are members of one or more professional organizations requiring liability insurance coverage and therefore are held accountable for the care they provide.

-A non-accredited health specialist with varying degrees of education

-The term "nutritionist" is not protected by law meaning anyone can call themselves a "nutritionist"
-Nutritionists have no regulating organization or standards of care
-Nutritionists may dispense nutrition information that has no scientific evidence to support it
